What are the duties of a QMA?

A QMA’s job entails giving patients prescription and non-prescription medications and then monitoring their reactions, all while being supervised by a licensed nurse. QMAs begin their careers as CNAs, and thus have specialized training in direct patient care.
The scope of a QMA’s license, as defined by Indiana Code, must be followed. A QMA can perform a variety of tasks in addition to their duties as a CNA, including administering oral medications, eye and ear drops, and blood sugar testing via fingerstick, among others.
